Perched high on the cliff tops overlooking the Tuscan isles of Elba, Montecristo and Giglio – Torre Della Galere offers some of the most spectacular sea views in Italy. Originally built by the Medici family in the 1400’s as part of a coastal warning system, Torre delle Galere enjoys a view of several hundred kilometers up and down the Tuscan coast.
Located at the end of a country track this property offers superb privacy and some of the best sunset views ever experienced – from the simple stone terrace on the edge of the cliff. Restored by the Marques in the fall and winter of 2005 the Galere is the perfect place to retreat away from the world and enjoy a secret side of Tuscany that few ever will experience.
The Galere accommodation consists of 4 bedrooms and bathrooms sleeping 8 people comfortably. The tower itself has two bedrooms – the master bedroom at the top of the tower and a bedroom with twin bunk beds at the bottom of a spiral staircase. Both rooms have en suite bathrooms . The remaining two bedrooms, each with en suite bathrooms, are located in the restored armory in a separate building five meters from the base of the tower. The main living area – kitchen, dinning area and lounge – is part of a refurbished storeroom with an enormous open fireplace. For many the most remarkable feature of this inspiring property is the stone terrace with the limitless view out to sea – including Elba, Giglio and the Bay of Follonica. Just off the terrace is the Jacuzzi – really good value on those long summer evenings.
