Seashore Vs Chianti
Southwest of Florence and Chianti there is another Tuscany: a golden sea of wheat and sunflowers called Maremma.
Driving through it you will see cowboys riding sturdy horses herding long horned Maremmano bulls.
It plays host to an interesting region that is withing easy reach of the coast and a number of small hamlets and fortresses.
Castiglione della Pescaia small fishing village with clean beaches and waters, has a charm rarely seen in the other touristic villages, especially during the off season - spring and autumn. Porto Ercole with its charming perennial fashionable sailing harbor inhabited by casually elegant yachtsmen and Porto Santo Stefano with its great fish market.  Massa Marittima an old walled city provides the traveller antiquity, historical relevance and strategic location. It is considerend to be architecturally excellent. It provides the visitor with museum, churces, restaurant and shopping.

The best way to visit Maremma is on your own by car. Grosseto is only a 45 minute drive from Siena and Montalcino . We recommend taking the time to visit the Maremma, one of the most beautiful places in Tuscany, but known to so few, especially as at been overshadowed by the celebrity of Chianti.
