Siena looks like a place from Fairy-tale. Late September is probably the best period to visit this medieval town, when
the community has forgotten the fights between the contrade (parishes) for the Palio of August 16th. It's the place
unlike any other. One that can open your heart with its exceptional wealth of artistic patrimony. The epitome of "la dolce
vita", the Sienese lifestyle that doesn't know hurry.
We have selected 10 places that you shouldn't miss during your visit to this little jewel.
#1: Any tour of Siena has to begin with Piazza del Campo. It is the heart of the town, where all the narrow
streets converge. It has the shape of a cloak (symbol of the Virgin, protector of the Town) divided into nine marked
sectors, symbolizing The Council of the Nine, which was responsible for the government of the medieval city. Why not
have breakfast in one of the coffee shops in one most beautiful squares of Italy?
#2 and #3: Visit the Palazzo Pubblico, the graceful Gothic town hall completed in 1342, it houses a lot of
masterpieces of Sienese art and history. For whoever has a lot of energy we recommend climbing the bell tower, Torre
del Mangia, the second highest medieval tower to be built in Italy. It is 88 meters (505 steps).
