Combining the architectural features of both an urban palazzo and suburban villa, this 17th mansion features a spectacular Renaissance garden and a magnificent view of the Duomo, downtown Florence and the rest of the Arno valley.
Gamberaia’s long history is fascinating; the original property was first described in 1412, the main villa built in 1610. It has been owned by royalty, was taken over by the German Army during World War II, who in their retreat tried unsuccessfully to burn it to the ground, turned over by the Holy See in the early 1950s, before being restored in 1954 and then lovingly and painstakingly renovated again in 1994.

On the ground floor, there is an entrance with vaulted ceilings, a fantastic ballroom, a billiard room, kitchen, and formal dining room – all furnished beautifully with priceless antiques and lovely original paintings and a half bathroom. There are three large bedrooms each with king-sized beds.
One of the bedrooms has its own en suite bathroom, the other two share a large bathroom. Upstairs on the first floor is a well-equipped kitchen, laundry room, another splendid formal dining room, a large covered terrace with a breathtaking view of the Duomo, and five spacious bedrooms, each with a king or queen-sized bed. These bedrooms share three bathrooms.
On the ground floor, not rented with Gamberaia, but available for an additional rental fee are two elegantly appointed salons, an interior colonnaded courtyard, and various administrative spaces. These rooms cannot be rented separately.
Perhaps the finest of Gamberaia’s features is its finely manicured gardens. The cypress allée, Gabinetto Rustico, bowling green, nymphaeum, grotto garden, Boschi, parterre, and lemon terrace are reminiscent of those belonging to the finest European palaces such as Versailles.
On the estate, there are four additional smaller air-conditioned houses available. Each has been carefully restored and comfortably furnished with family antiques and modern appliances. There are two three-bedroom houses, la Cappella and Nettuno, the former belonging originally to the 17th-century chapel, the latter named after the Neptune statue in the garden, the four-bedroom Limonaia (adjoining the lemon house) a historic 15th-century farmhouse which belonged to the family of the famous Florentine sculptor and architect Bernardo Rosselino, as well as Serretta, another small apartment next to Limonaia.
