The Original Etching Technique
MARCO BONECHI
The etching technique is an old chalcographical printing technique, which dates back to the 15th century. It
was established to divulge images. In time, this technique has become one of the most beautiful and fascinating
forms of artistic expression. In the 18th century the etching technique was further refined through the experimentation
of soft varnish, aquatint and black style, etc.
As far as printing is concerned, it is necessary to remember that all etched plates can be produced in a limited
number. This form of printing and the very fact of living in a reality where consumerism demand large scale reproduction
of images, rules out all kind of forging, conferring to the work of the artist a unique and precious originality.
