Sometimes hotel ratings don't allow one to truly separate the best from the excellent - and such is the case with the five
star Villa d'Este on Lake Como. If our rating system allowed it we'd give it another star - but five is unfortunately the
limit - which Villa d'Este easily earns! Converted into a hotel in 1873 the former sixteenth century residence of European
aristocrats is an oasis of tranquility where the staff anticipates every need and whim of its guests. The service and amenities
provided are of a quality often mentioned and rarely delivered, and the setting is truly magnificent.
Dining choices include the formal Verandah and the Grill for haute Italian dining. During the summer the Japanese
restaurant Kisho serves delicious food on the terrace.

Five minutes from the Swiss border, the Villa d'Este is open from March to the middle of November. The hotel has 88 rooms and an
additional 70 suites in two buildings, the Cardinal building and the Queen's pavillion. The rooms either face the Lake
or the lovely gardens, and no two are the same. No matter what the view only the finest linens and furnishings are used.
