 Tsitouras Collection
Perched on a seaside cliff just outside the town of Fira on the fantastic Greek island of Santorini are the five houses that comprise villa style Tsitouras Collection. According to legend Santorini is the land of the lost kingdom of Atlantis, and at the Tsitouras Collection guests experience the opulence of the legendary city. The mansion that forms the nucleus of the Tsitouras Collection was built in 1780. Over the centuries, it has served as a school, post office, and private home, and since 1985 has been an exclusive five star hotel owned by the famous collectior Dimitris Tsitouras. Tsitouras is a lifelong art lover and historian, as well as the author of many books about the island, known as the Greek Pompeii. In 40 years, Tsitouras has amassed over 4.000 Santorinian artefacts, all destined for a museum he is now building. In collaboration with British designer David Hicks, who advised him on colour schemes, Tsitouras went about decorating each house around a different Facet of Greek history, infusing each one with a particular personality. The hotel is famous for its quiet surroundings in harmony with nature. Guests love to gaze at the view and especially to watch the spectacular sunsets from our terrace, accompanied by the silhouette of Maria Callas.
Features such as the domes, vaults, interior windows and skylights characteristic of Santorinian architecture are combined with tasteful decoration, modern furniture, antiques and some of Tsitouras´s private collections of objets d´art including ancient amphorae, Byzantine icons, old maps, mariner´s chests, and paintings. These Houses have a capacity of between two and five persons each, and are named after the unique collection in each one: The House of the Sea, the House of the Winds, the House of Portraits, the House of Porcelain, and the House of Nureyev. All bathrooms are in Greek white marble and are fully equipped with hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers. Breakfast is served throughout the day. Guests may make selections from the hotel's lunch and dinner menu for in-room dining, or consult with the chef for private six-course dinners on a terrace overlooking the sea.
