Hôtel du Louvre
Built in 1855 on orders from Napoleon III to receive the many visitors to the Universal Exposition, the four star Hotel du Louvre was the first luxury hotel in France. Located in the heart of Paris's cultural district, the Hôtel Du Louvre is only a few steps from the Louvre Museum and is in close proximity to the Opera House Garnier, the Comedie Francaise and the Palais Royal. With its renovation in 2002, the Hôtel du Louvre has revived its authentic 19th century charm and its Directoire architecture and modern style combined with friendly service will put a smile on guests faces.
All of the Hôtel du Louvre's 202 spacious rooms are individually decorated with warm tones and traditional materials accentuating the luxurious character of the hotel. In 1897, the Impressionist Camille Pissarro took up residence in one of the apartments of the hotel. He created several of his great paintings of Paris from the windows of his room, which today has become the Pissarro Suite. Some of these masterpieces can be seen at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The Pissarro Suite is today a true apartment dedicated to the famous painter.
Open at any time from lunch to midnight, the Brasserie du Louvre offers traditional French food from noon until 11 P.M.. In summertime, the brasserie boasts a flowery terrace with a view of the Palais Royal.
