HORSE BACK RIDING FROM THE BEACH TO THE HILLS - 2 DAYS
DAY 1 - We Leave the Equestrian Center “Manciati”, and we cross the forest to reach the beach. We ride from
the beach of the Giannella tombolo (the northern tombolo of Monte Argentario) towards Monte Argentario, to Santa
Liberata. We climb the promontory to the Convent of Passionist Monks (built in 1733 by San Paolo della Croce di
Ovada, founder in 1720 of the Order of Passionist Fathers). It has a spectacular view of the Orbetello lagoon.
We keep riding along the coast to Porto Ercole and we will stop for lunch at the Poggio Pertuso beach, called also
Cala Galera. We continue riding, after lunch, on the beach of the Feniglia Tombolo (the southern tombolo of the
Monte Argentario) to Ansedonia (the ancient roman town of Cosa). We ride across Cosa and we keep going, leaving
the sea at the shoulders, and traversing the old maremman countryside. We will have dinner and spend the night at
the agriturism called “Il Solengo”.
DAY 2 - After a good breakfast, we will start the journey again, crossing the protected area of the agriturism.
Here, we will probably have the chance to see wild boars, deers and other plentiful Maremma wildlife. Climbing
the hills we will stop at the Caprai’s cabin for a snack. We will continue in the direction of the Morcola’s
macchia (tight wooded forest) to Marsigliana, an ancient herding point for cows and bulls. Riding down the Albegna
river to the mouth, we will visit the natural reserve of the WWF, inside the Orbetello lagoon (important bird
watching center for pink flamingos, as well as, different species of sea birds). We then will begin the return
journey to the Equestrian Center “Manciati”.
